When commissioned to design a major renovation that capitalised on the existing dwelling’s link to the swimming pool and outdoor entertaining area, Tauranga architect Brendon Gordon brought with him his own distinctive style.
Outside, towering, tropical greenery forms the framework for the resort-like feel he’s leaned into at this address. Its soothing, relaxing energy, which can be enhanced when the mood strikes by an in-built sound system, can’t be emphasised enough when describing the home’s presence.
The pool’s tropical ambience is integral to this. A warm-water bore allows year-round use, and upgrades to the pool and pumphouse equipment ensure it will need only standard maintenance for years to come.

The kitchen and scullery’s timeless ambience is elevated by the richness of dark-stained rimu flooring, which contrasts impeccably with the rest of the décor’s neutral palette. The contemporary tone of these spaces means this family hub will be able to adapt to any future change of taste in furnishings, artwork and plants.
Upstairs, in a very spacious zone, with a dressing area, study and balcony attached, the main bedroom champions privacy. A second bedroom on this level could double as a private lounge or lend itself to the development of an ensuite.
Two bedrooms sit separately in another wing, offering the flexibility to accommodate extended family, friends, or paying guests, perhaps? The inclusion of a lounge, kitchenette, bathroom and private entry deliver options aplenty.
As with many of Tauranga’s most distinguished homes, each chapter of this house’s life has brought with it different ideas and changing ways, but here, time has been extraordinarily kind. The house has evolved into a residence of substance and elegance, its significant space throughout and substantial outdoor areas a rare find on a quarter-acre section.
