Arts Whakatāne is thrilled to announce an extended summer arts programme in the vibrant Eastern Bay of Plenty. Everyone’s welcome – pop in for the day or make a weekend of it.
January 20 to 28
Featuring New Zealand artists working
in wood and stone, plus the annual Youth Symposium. Weavers and potters will also be making and displaying works on the final weekend.

A celebration of dance in its many
forms, with performances by local groups showcasing many cultures and styles. Bring your dancing shoes and join in the fun.
Location: Wharaurangi (“The Gap”). Cost: Donation.
The Fresh Market Jazz in the Park
Supported by local acts, this year’s headliner is Impressions Jazz Quintet, who bring a passionate mix of jazz standards and their own contemporary groove, Latin influences and rhythmic folk.
Location: Whakatāne Rose Gardens. Cost: $5 per adult, children under 12 free.

2019 Molly Morpeth Canaday Award
– Painting + Drawing Exhibition

Presented by Arts Whakatāne and Whakatāne Museum and Arts, this award offers professional development opportunities for artists by showcasing their work to peers, collectors, critics, museum curators, the media and the community.

Positively Patchwork Exhibition
April 5 to 7
With quilts by Eastbay Quilters and the Cotton Pickers, there will be hundreds of quilts on display, guest exhibitors, raffles, merchants selling crafts and fabric, and much more.
Location: Whakatāne District War Memorial Hall. Cost: $5 per adult, schoolchildren free.
