EVES Realty started back in 1968. That makes them 50 this year! We kick off the celebrations by asking some of their top sales people to share with us a few of their favourite homes.

Moffat Road, Tauranga

Jeff Garnett
I sold this home for a couple moving to a retirement home.

Property: Moffat Road, Tauranga

Why is this house special to you?

This property sale reminds me why I find my job so rewarding. The owners had built the home some years ago and are now selling and moving to a retirement home. Having been in the industry for so long, I’m lucky enough to have helped people find property from their first home right through to retirement. It’s a great feeling, knowing you are helping with the transitions through each of life’s stages.

Where would your dream home be?

There are some really beautiful, huge plots tucked away in Bethlehem — much like this gorgeous country manor style home on Moffat Road.

What’s the Bay’s best kept secret?

Where I live, Beach Road! Just over ten years ago, I saw a house listed here and bought it straight away. We still live there. There you have it! Not so secret any more.

Boscabel Drive, Ohauiti

Paige Smith
This was my first auction.

Property: Boscabel Drive, Ohauiti

Why is this house special to you?

I wish I could say my fondest memory was spending time in the home’s award-winning ensuite, enjoying a bubble bath and stargazing up through the ceiling’s open louvres whilst listening to Fleetwood Mac. I certainly thought about it after showing everyone through the beautiful home. But for the lucky buyer, that could well be their regular Monday evening!

Where would your dream home be?

Hmmm that’s a hard one … there are so many spots where I’d feel lucky to pitch a tent, let alone call home. Waratah Street in Matua would be up there: amazing views, close to the water and above my old football club.

What’s the Bay’s best kept secret?

Kaiate Falls. Pack a picnic and make a day of it.

443 Oceanbeach Road, The Mount

Julene Foster
An iconic Mount home.

Property: 443 Oceanbeach Road, The Mount

Why is this house special to you?

It is a statement house. The architecture was ahead of its time when it was built in the eighties. It was named Zee van Vrede, Dutch for Sea of Peace. The name summed up life at 443 perfectly. The view, and the way it was designed, brought instant peace to anyone who walked through the door.

When the original owner had to return to The Netherlands, we took the property to auction. In those days, auctions were rare, and they took place at the property, usually attracting around 20 people. But there were well over 100 present at 443 on the big day. They were everywhere: all over the sand dunes, anywhere they could find standing room and witness the action. I was on the deck with the auctioneer. It felt like a rock concert! The home sold to a lovely couple from Auckland for what in those days was considered serious money. They lived there for 30 years and enjoyed every minute. It has been demolished now for a new, exciting project.

Where would your dream home be?

Absolute beachfront. I don’t mind if it’s The Mount or Papamoa, as long as the dunes and the ocean are my backyard.

What’s the Bay’s best kept secret?

The lifestyle. People don’t realise how amazing it is until they move here. You can come on holiday and never fully experience everything we’ve got to offer. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been here for 58 years. And I still love it, every day.

4 Tay Street, The Mount

Pat King
This is our own home and project: turning a two bedroom, fifties bungalow into a relaxed family home, with the focus on keeping the character and making it warm, light and inviting.

Property: 4 Tay Street, The Mount

Why is this house special to you?

In the middle of the reno our second child was born. It’s full of special memories, like first steps and first bike rides. Our neighbours bought a bit of our back section and we are joined by a gate. Our kids are similar ages so we either have no kids or five running around. It’s so cool! Joint dinners happen without any effort, usually ending with heaps of kids in the hammock under the puka trees in our front yard. It’s so private and peaceful, too. The louvred deck area has just doubled our living space and is our main hang-out spot.

You can wander over the road to Blake Park to watch the cricket or Saturday school sports, and of course at the other end of Tay Street is a quick coffee from Pete, where the customer is never right. I love it.

Everyone seems to have lived in or partied at our place over the years. It’s nice to have a bit of history to the house.

Where would your dream home be?

We love Lee Street, Gordon Road and early Oceanbeach Road beachfront. They have the best surf breaks and you can fall asleep hearing the ocean.

What’s the Bay’s best kept secret?

I love the Redwoods. We have a bit of a crew of lads who ride once a week. Stopping off at Okere Falls for a German beer and a bite to eat on our way home is awesome.

Horsley Grove, Pyes Pa

Mark Leach
I sold the
property for a
mother and her two children

Property: Horsley Grove, Pyes Pa

Why is this house special to you?

It’s always very satisfying to help someone achieve a sale that allows them to upsize to their next family home and achieve their property dreams. This one is particularly special as it’s on the same street as my own home. I know it’ll be great for the family because the schools are great here, and there’s a good vibe to the area.

Where would your dream home be?

The dream location for us would be a small lifestyle property in Pyes Pa or Oropi with either views towards The Mount or the Kaimais.

What’s the Bay’s best kept secret?

Summer Hills Farm at the back of Welcome Bay; great mountain bike tracks, walking and running tracks and a golf course. It’s so close to town, but you feel like you are a long way away. The views are amazing.

Joanna Martinez-Hart
The home where I raised my family.

Property: Fourth Avenue, Tauranga

Why is this house special to you?

Working for EVES Rentals, we see many families struggling to find a home. So when I walk through the door I am reminded how lucky I am. It’s no secret we have a rental housing shortage. We are often able to successfully house families who are in desperate need of a home, with something that suits their needs. As a mum, finding homes for families makes my job extra rewarding.

Not only are our tenants very happy to have found a home, but the landlords are also pleased to be part of the solution for these families. I love that many of the landlords we work with, and our local community, are really thoughtful and care so much about helping others to find somewhere they can call home.

Where would your dream home be?

I’m in my dream home. My husband and I started our married life here in the Avenues, raising our two children. We have loved seeing the next generation of young families move into the area.

What’s the Bay’s best kept secret?

It’s no secret, but my favourite spot is the main beach at Mt Maunganui. I often sit there and reflect on how lucky I am to live where I do.
