Mount Maunganui Beachside Holiday Park

Just a few minutes’ walk from cafés, restaurants, the Mount Hot Salt Water Pools, friendly resort-style shopping, and world-class, white sandy beaches, this is the perfect place for a memorable holiday. You should stay at the iconic holiday park at the base of The Mount, even if you live nearby. Wake up to the sound of crashing waves and run up that hill!

Getting there: Head to the start of Maunganui Rd, in the heart of Mount Maunganui.

Amenities: Kitchen, BBQ area, laundry, cabins, campsites, and onsite caravans.

Tirohanga Beach Motor Camp

Set amongst 6 hectares, with leafy trees and a sandy beachfront, this campsite is no-fuss relaxation. To keep the younger kids entertained, there is a small creek nearby, where they can create a dam and play in the warmer water, making sand castles and having boat races.

Amenities: Pool, kitchen, laundry, games room, playground, cabins, campsites, safe swimming beach, and children’s entertainment over Christmas week.

Lake Ōkareka DOC Campsite

Getting there: A 15-minute drive from central Rotorua.

Amenities: This is good, old-fashioned camping. Unpowered sites, toilets, a cooking shelter and tables.

Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park

You can’t leave the Coromandel without soaking in a hot water pool you’ve created with your own hands. Family owned, this park has distinctive cabins and wood-lined pods across the campsite. Very alluring for ‘playing house’.

Omokoroa Kiwi Holiday Park

Thermal mineral water lls the three pools to a lovely warmth. The pure water comes direct from a hot water rock stream, metres below the Earth’s surface. The all-natural, alkaline water leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. There is a real healing element to this mineral water, and a good soak will do wonders for aches and pains.

Getting there: Just a 20-minute drive from Tauranga, but you feel like you are in an oasis of calm.

Amenities: Thermal pools, kitchen, BBQ area, laundry, games room, playground, motel units, cabins, and powered sites.

Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park

Getting there: Half an hour east of Whakatāne.

Amenities: Playground, bouncy cushion, two kitchen blocks, covered BBQ area, and games room with pool table.

Bushaven, Opotiki

This is nature at its best. Bush camping means you can access the wilderness easily and explore on bike or foot. Or go on a horse trek down the Te Waiti stream with Pappi, who has hunted in this valley his whole life.

Getting there: In the Urutawa Forest, out of Opotiki.

Amenities: A house which sleeps 20, cabins, motel units, powered campsites, bike hire, winter spa pool, heli-tours, shing, swimming, and hunting.
