Our picks of the local cafés
FISHERMAN’S WHARF CAFÉ, OHOPE: The best setting in town, directly over the water at Ohiwa Wharf in Ohope. Superb food, and the sunset is not to be missed.
MOXI CAFÉ, OHOPE: This new kid on the block is the complete package – great coffee, food, service, and a super cool fit-out.
L’EPICERIE, AND L’EPICERIE LARDER, WHAKATĀNE: The town’s well-known, authentic French café, L’Epicerie, has opened L’Epicerie Larder, a deli and café with delights direct from France. Take away for a beach picnic, or dine in at the new outdoor courtyard.
JULIANS BERRY FARM AND CAFÉ, RD1, WHAKATĀNE: The ideal spot for families – great food, coffee, pick your own berries, a playground, feed the animals, and play mini-golf.
BLUEBERRY CORNER, WHAKATĀNE: The best blueberries and home baking around! Great for kids, with a playground and giant bouncing pillow.
OHIWA MACADAMIAS, RD2, OPOTIKI: The home of the Wonder Cracker, and to Anne and Paul Robin, who have owned Ohiwa Macadamias for 20 years.
