Leanne Cashmore from Skin Centre tells us about the benefits of hyaluronic acid.

LEANNE CASHMORE, senior appearance medicine nurse

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in the skin that has the capacity to attract and hold large amounts of moisture. As we age, our natural hyaluronic acid is depleted. But we have the ability to boost levels in the skin.

What treatments can you use to increase levels in the skin?

We have an excellent treatment called the Beauty Booster. It replenishes the skin by delivering Redensity II, a unique hyaluronic acid, which hydrates and repairs the skin. Its patented formula contains amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. We use advanced technology to make sure the formula is evenly distributed at just the right depth in your skin.

How long does it take for the treatment to work?

The effects are instant. Skin looks plumper, firmer, smoother and more hydrated. The dermis is thicker and more elastic. You would usually have three treatments within a month of each other. You’ll really see the full benefit after the course ends. The neck has historically been a very difficult area to rejuvenate with other treatments, and is often a true measure of someone’s age. With the Beauty Booster, we are having great success treating the face, neck, décolletage, and backs of hands. The effects are subtle and natural looking.

Who benefits most from having this treatment?

Anyone whose skin is starting to show signs of aging – dull skin, lack of hydration, and fine lines starting to appear. If you have a special event to attend and want to look your best, this is a great treatment.

How long does it take? Is there any recovery time?

You’ll be in the clinic for two hours, allowing one hour for the topical anaesthetic to work and one hour for treatment. The recovery time is one to two days, so the hyaluronic acid is fully absorbed into the skin, and maybe a couple of extra days for the superficial bruising to disappear. This is easily covered with makeup.

Is there anything I can do at home to maximise the benefits of the treatment?

Drink plenty of water, eat a healthy diet, and apply a hyaluronic acid moisturiser. The benefits will last about a year. Best results are attained by having a booster treatment once or twice a year.
