UNO. Most Read in September
The Magazine Media Awards, a legendary midwife and vegan dumplings — we’ve rounded up our five most popular features of September.
5. Eagle Ridge — To A Year Well Done
We reckon Eagle Ridge has served around 30,000 canapés, pure 20,000 glasses of champagne, and made up hundreds and hundreds of beds in the last year. We talk to owners, Nigel and Deb, and manager, Briana, about the highlights of their first year.
4. The Editor’s Diary: Where HAVE You Been? 4–10 September
Our whole team were up in Auckland this week at the Magazine Media Awards. We were surprised (and so thrilled!) to be finalists in two categories: Best Designer, and Best Editor.
3. Dish Of The Week: Tiki Dumplings At The Rising Tide
The dish is actually named after the local legend Tiki Taane. At one of the events back in 2015 he came to Johney’s Dumpling House stall and asked if they had any vege options. Unfortunately they didn’t. So Johny Zhou set himself the task of creating something for the vegetarians and vegans.
2. Recover: Anne Sharplin
When we put Anne on the cover in winter 2016, the response was huge. We were bowled over by the wave of love for this woman who is responsible for attending the births of over 2,000 babies. Working on call is hard. Anne has done it for 35 years, and 30 of those in Tauranga. We caught up with her a year after appearing on our cover.
1. Tarnished Frocks And Divas. The Millennial View
One of Tauranga’s biggest shows, Tarnished Frocks and Divas, kicked with a huge opening night last night at the ASB Arena. Our UNO. digital ed was there to watch this year’s show, Zoetica.
