Indulge your love of fragile flowers or you inner nineties grunge this weekend. Best of the Bay Weekend has you covered!

Saturday 30th September

Cherry Blossom Festival, Greerton Village

Start your weekend with a family day in Greerton Village. The blossom trees, 100 street cars and hot rods are all on display, an Al Dawson band concert, bouncy castle, BBQ, face painting and heaps more to see and do for every age.

When: 10 am — 2 pm

Funkadelic Monks and Lounge Apes at Totara St

A festival of grunge and funk takes place at Totara St at The Mount. Funkadelic Monks are bringing back the Red Hot Chilli Peppers vibes, playing all the favs: Californication, Under the Bridge and all the other hits. The Lounge Apes’ Nirvana tribute show will be a nostalgic riot with Lithium, Come As You Are, Heart Shaped Box and of course Smells Like Teen Spirit. You’ll be right back in the day!

Art-in-the-Air Kite Day at Moore Park

Have a sleep in after going wild at Totara St because the kite day in KatiKati doesn’t start until 12:05 pm. Some of New Zealand’s top kite flyers will be stealing the show at Moore Park.

NZKA members Perrin Melcheor, Peter Clark and Evan More, from Auckland, are bringing their fabulous flying machines — from 30 metre soft kites to the intricacies of multi-celled box kites,” says John Russell, co-organiser of the event.

A display of art kites, painted by local artists, opposite in Diggelmann Park is also not to be missed.

When: 12:05 — 4 pm
