Start your week­end with a fam­i­ly day in Greer­ton Vil­lage. The blos­som trees, 100 street cars and hot rods are all on dis­play, an Al Daw­son band con­cert, boun­cy castle, BBQ, face paint­ing and heaps more to see and do for every age.

Funkadelic Monks and Lounge Apes at Totara St

A fes­ti­val of grunge and funk takes place at Totara St at The Mount. Funkadelic Monks are bring­ing back the Red Hot Chilli Pep­pers vibes, play­ing all the favs: Cal­i­for­ni­ca­tion, Under the Bridge and all the oth­er hits. The Lounge Apes’ Nir­vana trib­ute show will be a nos­tal­gic riot with Lithi­um, Come As You Are, Heart Shaped Box and of course Smells Like Teen Spir­it. You’ll be right back in the day!

Art-in-the-Air Kite Day at Moore Park

Have a sleep in after going wild at Totara St because the kite day in KatiKati doesn’t start until 12:05 pm. Some of New Zealand’s top kite fly­ers will be steal­ing the show at Moore Park.

NZKA mem­bers Per­rin Melcheor, Peter Clark and Evan More, from Auck­land, are bring­ing their fab­u­lous fly­ing machi­nes — from 30 metre soft kites to the intri­ca­cies of mul­ti-celled box kites,” says John Rus­sell, co-organ­is­er of the event.

A dis­play of art kites, paint­ed by local artists, oppo­site in Diggel­mann Park is also not to be missed.
